With the 2009 Season Opener at the Ga. Dome in Atlanta fast approaching, there is more on the minds of state officials in Montgomery - Tallahassee - & Atlanta than Football! What's on their minds just happens to be that asset that no state, hell no people can do without! It's called H2O - you know that liquid stuff that keeps the grass green, the vegetables growing, the animals from dying of thirst, not to mention Human's - Then again whoever said Politicians were members of the human race!
A federal judge's ruling in the water war which has Alabama and Florida vs Georgia was a touchdown + Extra-Point and maybe the winning score, for Alabama and Florida, Which is totally unusual to have FL & AL on the same side.
U.S. District Judge Paul Magnuson ruled that water withdrawals from Lake Lanier, Atlanta's main source of water, are illegal under federal law.
In what has been at least a two decade fight amongst these border state's, this ruling has put the odds in favor of AL & FL. There will be a three year freeze on withdrawals at current levels, but said if Congress hasn't approved a settlement by then, most of the withdrawals must stop!
Let's see we've got a GA Senator wanting to hold the 'World's Largest Cocktail Party' as HOSTAGE! This being done under the pre-text of GA people/fans need to keep their Money in GA!
I can just see the Headline now "BAMA WILL NOT PLAY HOKIES IN GA-DOME" Gov. Riley has forbidden any Alabama teams to travel to the state of GA for any games - stating that Alabama citizens need to keep their money in Alabama! such one-up gamesmanship!
Will Crist keep the Gators & 'Noles from going to Georgia if the Dog's demand a change to Athens? Sounds absurd doesn't it! Although with todays politicians anything is possible, we all know now that they don't care about the average citizen!
The clock is running, with three years for the states to work things out. Because of Magnuson's ruling, it's hard to imagine Georgia coming from behind to win the water war. The best Georgia may be able to do in the talks is keep Alabama and Florida from running up the score.
With the STUPIDITY they are showing I think it would be a better outcome for Georgia if everyone would just let the outcome of the Football games decide the water war! Talk about STUPID!
